School sets up relocation, rebuilding committee

-

KUCHING: A school relocation and rebuilding committee has been set up to facilitate the relocation of SK Chung Hua Bako, which is long overdue.

President of the Federation of Boards of Management for Aided Chinese Primary Schools of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Dvisions Jonathan Chai announced this at a press conference here yesterday.

Chai, who is also heading the new committee, said they targeted to realise the relocation within the next three years.

According to him, the board of management of SK Chung Hua Bako has expressed its wish to let the federation assume full responsibility in relocating the school.

Chai said the new committee would soon have a meeting with the developer who had earlier donated a piece of land to pave way for the relocation.

He said they needed to gain a better understanding on the transfer of ownership of the land as well as other relevant details before proceeding to appoint a consultant.

He added that the appointed consultant would engage works such as design.

He said the federation would, through representatives from Sarawak, bid for development fund from the federal government to materialise the project.

This, he said, could be done only after the federal cabinet is properly formed.

“A huge amount of money will be required to implement the relocation of SK Chung Hua Bako. We cannot solely depend on donations from the Chinese community to carry out the project,” Chai added.

SJK Chung Hua Bako is located at Kampung Bako, about 20km from the city.

The school has been closed for at least five years due to insufficient enrolment.
