University of Southampton rises 12 places in 2019 Guardian University Guide
KUALA LUMPUR: The University of Southampton has risen 12 places to 23rd overall in the 2019 Guardian University Guide.
A press release said Southampton is also ranked in the top 10 by The Guardian across 10 subject areas including Education, which ranks second in the United Kingdom ( UK).
The university is also ranked second in the country for Electronic and Electrical Engineering – continuing a run of nine consecutive years in the UK top two as ranked by The Guardian, joined by Civil Engineering (fourth) and Mechanical Engineering (sixth) to complete a hat-trick of top 10 ratings for Southampton’s undergraduate engineering programmes.
These latest results follow Southampton’s recent return to the top 20 in the 2019 Complete University Guide, where Southampton recently climbed six places to 20th overall.
President and vice- chancellor Prof Sir Christopher Snowden welcomed the improvement in the university’s ranking in the Guardian University Guide, following on from the six place rise in the Complete University Guide rankings, reflecting the university’s strategic focus on quality.
Southampton is also ranked in the top 10 by The Guardian for Media and Film Studies (fifth), Philosophy ( sixth), Physics ( sixth), Art ( seventh – through the Winchester School of Art), Computer Science and Information Systems (eighth), and Earth and Marine Sciences (10th).
Overall, 80 per cent of Southampton’s subject rankings are in the top 40.
The university also has an international branch campus in Educity, Iskandar Malaysia.
Established in 2012, the Malaysia Campus offers worldclass engineering programmes including MEng in Mechanical Engineering, MEng Aeronautics and Astronautics, MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Engineering Foundation Year.
The university enables students to spend their first two years in Malaysia combined with the fi nal two years in the UK.
