K-League teams can now recruit state, national players

-

KUCHING: Teams participating in the K-League are now allowed to enlist players who are playing for the Sarawak senior, President Cup, Youth Cup and FAM Cup squads.

However, each team is allowed to recruit two players from the above mentioned squads in their line- up for this year’s tournament, depending on the players’ contracts with the respective clubs.

Kuching Division Footbal l Association ( KDFA) president Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said the change in the format is ensure that the league will always remain top quality and promises to be very competitive to all participating teams.

The Tupong assemblyman said the signing of professional players or “special players” was not necessary but it would be up to the teams to decide.

However, each team is required to field three U-21 players (those born in 1997 or after) in each match.

“This initiative is to allow us to identify potential young players to represent KDFA,” added Fazzrudin.

KDFA has yet to decide the actual date for the commencement of the K-League but it was earlier proposed that the date be Aug 8 and it will be played over three months.

For this year’s K- League, the organisers have targeted 10 to 12 teams and the matches will be held at Padang C, D and Sarawak Stadium on the weekends.

However, there is a possibility that matches can be held on week days depending on the need and availability of the football fields.
