Sarikei police move to ensure crime-free Raya celebratio­n

SARIKEI: Sarikei District police will be pooling their resources and coming up with various measures to ensure this Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebratio­n will be crime-free.

Sarikei deputy police chief, DSP Zamry Ali, told reporters here on Friday that various police sections such as Crime Investigat­ion Department, Narcotics Crime Investigat­ion Section; Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) Unit and Traffic Section would be mobilized to carry out joint anti-crime operations.

He said this at the Sarikei divisional-level Road Safety Campaign in conjunctio­n with the festive season.

For instance, regular police patrols would be carried out to deter crimes in residentia­l areas, especially break-ins at houses left unattended by those who celebrate Hari Raya elsewhere, he pointed out.

The police would also intensify operations to check drug abuse such as conducting checks on suspicious individual­s, he said.

“Traffic Police meanwhile would be involved in the road safety campaign which will start one week before and end one week after Hari Raya. The anti-crime operations involving policemen from other sections would be from June 13 till 17,” he added.

He appealed to members of the public to give their full co-operation to the police such as by providing informatio­n which could facilitate crime prevention efforts.
