Uphold Quran as source of unity, knowledge, Muslims reminded

-

LAWAS: The Quran remains a vital source of unity, knowledge and progress in the Islamic society.

In relation to this, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan points out that skills and knowledge are the core values needed to empower a country towards becoming ‘a nation of brilliant ideas’.

This, he stresses, is shown by the Sarawak government’s concern in religious education, besides the regular syllabus.

“The appreciation of the holy verses in the Quran will not only inspire and motivate us to be closer to Allah S.W.T. but also to master knowledge, because the Holy Book encourages the people to seek, acquire and uphold high-level of knowledge in life,” he spoke at the closing of districtlevel ‘Khatam Al-Quran 2018’ event at Masjid Darul Ma’mor here yesterday, where his wife Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong and Lawas District Officer Hussaini Hakim were also present.

The event was organised and run by the Lawas branch of Malaysian Muslim Welfare Organisation (Perkim).

Adding on, Awang Tengah also called upon Muslim parents to uphold the teachings of the Quran and instil these values in their children so as to keep them away from social ills like drug abuse.

“Monitor your children and ensure that they would not fall victim to drug addiction, which is known to have caused families to break apart, suffer and with some ending in tragedies,” he said.

Meanwhile in her remarks earlier, Dayang Morliah – also Perkim Lawas chairperson – said the participation in this year’s ‘Khatam Al-Quran’ surpassed the initial target of 1,000 individuals.

“Our target was 1,000, but 1,300 from 39 groups took part,” she said.

Dayang Morliah also expressed her hope that such positive trend would continue, signifying the importance for Muslims to learn and appreciate the content of this Holy book in Islam.
