Two alumni of AeU from Sabah share their success and pride in their lifelong learning experience.

Liew Chee Foh, a Master of Education Graduate in 2015:

Liew Chee Foh, age 56, was a recipient of Chairman Award and a graduate of Master of Education (MEd) degree in AeU’s Convocation 2015.

He works as a full-time tutor in the Medical Assistant Training Programme and is the Head of Medical Assistant Programme at Allied Health Science College, Kota Kinabalu.

He holds a BSc (Hons) in Health Care and BSc (Hons) in Health Science, both by distance learning mode.

Liew says, “A visit to an education fair with my children in 2013 brought me this golden opportunity to enrol in AeU.

I was attracted to AeU’s affordable course fees, flexible mode of course delivery in the MEd programme which best fit my busy work schedule and family commitments.

I appreciate AeU’s effort to prioritise students’ convenience.

AeU’slearning management system, myPLS is user-friendly with easy access to online modules and even completed assignments are sent for assessment with ease.

AeU’sdigital library facilities have huge collections of reference and learning materials which helped in my research.

I could apply the knowledge gained from the MEd programme to my work and enhance the quality of my allied health personnel training.

I attribute my success to the support of AeU’s academic facilitators and my family.”

Ivy Ngu Mei Ee,a Master of Education Graduate, 2016:

Ivy Ngu Mei Ee is a Science teacher in SMK Luar Bandar, Sibu, Sarawak.

After having gained 3 years teaching experience, she decided to enrol in AeU’s Master of Education (MEd) with a specialisation in Science Education in September 2014and completed the programme in June 2016. She was a proud recipient of AeU’s prestigious Chairman Award during her convocation in 2016.

Ivy says, “I chose AeU for a few reasons. First and most importantly, it is internationally benchmarked, recognised by the Ministry of Educationand accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency.

Secondly, it has a learning centre in Sibu, which is my hometown.

Thirdly, I could study parttime without giving up my job. Fourthly,AeU enable students to have easy access via online to various study materials and resources (for assignments and project paper) from the AeU’sdigital library.

It saves me valuable time and is more cost efficient for me compared to other local universities.”

“I am surprised I could managed both work and studies and yet excel despite the new challenges I have to face being a teacher and a student at the same time. Both roles require me to fulfil the demands school work, course assignments and revisions for final exams.

During my study journey, feeling once again like a student gives me a deeper understanding of the views from my students’ perspective.

The benefits I gained from my chosen specialisation in MEd inspired and motivated me to teach science more creatively and effectively in schools.

I was able to apply and implement the knowledge learnt in my work,” she added.

“For my success, I am grateful to the great support and encouragement from my family members, AeU’s academic facilitators and staff. I would not hesitate to recommend others to experience the lifelong learning that have in many ways enriched my work and personal development,” she said.

AeU is a collaborative multimode university established under the auspices of 34 Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) countries.

A key feature in AeU’s strategic plan is to embrace the digital frontier and provide students with an immersive personalised and borderless education experience with goals of flexibility, quality and relevance, anytime, anywhere, any size and on any device globally.

A highly accessible, mobile, visually rich and interactive digital presence would enable students to achieve at their own pace no matter where they were geographically, academically or where they were in their life or career stage.

Today AeU has 15,000 graduates and cumulative student numbers exceeding 29,000.

This is a testimony on AeU’s capability to produce high-calibre graduates. Besides, AeU has over 3,000 students taking its programmes at its collaborative learning centres abroad including those in the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Africa.

AeU’s annual intakes are in January, May and September. However, intakes for all postgraduate (by research) programmes are open throughout the year.
