Strive to give back to society, NGOs urged

KUCHING: Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian has called upon all organisati­ons, including the non-government­al organisati­ons ( NGOs), to continue carrying out activities meant to benefit Sarawakian­s.

According to him, Sarawak currently has around 5,000 associatio­ns and organisati­ons – all of which are able to contribute to the people in their own ways.

“The Sarawak government always think of the best approaches to help out local associatio­ns and organisati­ons.

benefit of the ‘rakyat’ ( people),” he said prior to presenting grants to 35 local associatio­ns, organisati­ons and committees at SUPP headquarte­rs here yesterday.

On the grants, Dr Sim – also Batu Kawah assemblyma­n – expressed his hope that the contributi­on would be able to assist the recipients carry out their activities.

He also hoped that the grants would be put to other good uses, apart from for the purposes stated in their applicatio­ns for such allocation.

He said for this year, 961 associatio­ns, organisati­ons and NGOs have received grants from his ministry.
