Wong ‘must have faith’ in Sarawak govt’s ability — Abdul Karim

-

SIBU: Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei must have faith in the Sarawak government’s administration with regards to devolution of power and autonomy.

Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah in saying this highlighted the fact that the Sarawak government has been given very good rating by credit rating agencies such as Standard and Poor, and RAM, among others.

“King Wei must have faith in the state government. Administering a state government is not like administering a coffee shop or a household.

“The government of the day is subject to audits, regulations, financial procedures and many other checks- and- balances. The state coffers are not owned by the chief minister or ministers or government of the day, and every sen spent requires approval.

“The state government has been well managed and this is why it has been given very good rating by credit rating agencies like Standard and Poor, RAM and others,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Wong had recently expressed concern about the devolution of power and autonomy to the Sarawak government which he claimed did not uphold integrity and transparency in governance.

Wong said it occurred to him that every time Barisan Nasional ( BN) Sarawak talked about autonomy, it was trying to boost its chances of winning elections, be it parliamentary or state.

Abdul Karim went on to say that while it was Wong’s right to be worried, he should not be “too overly worried”.

“Always have faith in others too. It is not just DAP that knows how to manage and run a government.

“Others also have that capability and, more so, the experience to manage and run a government.”
