Larry vows to fulfil GE14 promises, set up education fund for Julau students
JULAU: Julau member of parliament Larry Sng assures voters here that he will honour all election promises made during the 14th general election.
Speaking during a ‘ngiling bidai’ ceremony to mark the closing of Gawai Dayak at Rumah Mary in Sungai Ijit, near here yesterday, Sng said the promises he made during the campaign trail were “not empty talk, but came from my heart”.
“Now that I have joined PKR, a component of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition federal government, I am confident it would make it much easier for the promises to be delivered accordingly.
“However, due to the (nation’s) unfavourable financial situation when PH took over from the previous government, only small amount of funds could be allocated for development for the time being,” he said in reference to the RM500,000 in allocation each PH parliamentarian would receive.
Sng said for the time being, he would give priority to all village security and development committees (JKKKs) in the disbursement of funds, before announcing a grant of RM20,000 to the JKKK of Rumah Mary.
He added that in the interest of providing the best service to his constituents, he is prepared to work closely with Meluan and Pakan assemblymen, Rolland Duat and Tan Sri William Mawan respectively, even though they were from different political parties.
On another matter, Sng said he would soon set up an education fund to help students in Julau pursue tertiary education – whether diploma, degree or masters – similar to the Larry Sng Education Fund he had set up in Kapit.
Among those present during the ngiling bidai ceremony were former Meluan assemblyman Wong Judat as well as local community leaders.
