Lakib Bintulu gives away RM80,000 in ‘duit raya’
BINTULU: A total of 1,534 local Muslims, including widows and orphans, received ‘duit raya’ amounting to RM80,000 from the Bintulu Islamic Welfare Trust Board ( Lakib) at two functions here yesterday.
Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office ( Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip presented the cash aid at Masjid Jepak in the morning, followed by the next handover at Masjid At-Taqwa RPR Sebiew in the afternoon.
In his remarks, Talib – also Jepak assemblyman – highlighted the importance to help the needy in any way that one could.
“It is important for us to donate, even if it’s not much – it’s the intention that counts. If we had some extra profits, we could do a good deed by helping the less- fortunate members of the community.
“From there, we can add and contribute some more; we keep on contributing.
“We must not wait until we become rich or until we get older to do good deeds,” said Talib, who was accompanied by his wife Datin Dr Zaleha Abdullah at both functions.
Adding on, the minister acknowledged that Malaysians are very fortunate to live in a country where the communities were very concerned for the welfare and wellbeing of one another.
“The concept of giving and helping the needy is very strong in our society.”
Peryatim Bintulu chairman Haidar Khan Asghar Khan was also present.
