MIRI: A 31-year- old local woman fell to her death Sunday night during a police drug raid at the seventh-floor room of a hotel- cumserviced apartment here.

District police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said the woman was with a 34-year- old unemployed local man when police raided the room following a tip- off of possible drug- related activity taking place there.

“While a check was being conducted in the room, the victim suddenly ran to the balcony and fell down to the hotel lobby, dying on the spot,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He added the woman suffered broken wrists and legs, as well as head injuries, as a result of the fall, and that her body was sent to Miri Hospital for a postmortem.

“A check found that she had been previously arrested in connection to Section 414 of the Penal Code for assisting in concealment of stolen property.

“A warrant of arrest had been issued after she failed to show up in a Miri court,” he said without revealing her name.

Lim also disclosed that police found a blue packet in the room which contained a substance believed to be methamphetamine, weighing about 1.15 grammes, leading to the man’s arrest under Section 12( 2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
