AAS calls for Raus, Zulkifli to step down immediately

-

KUCHING: The Advocates Association of Sarawak (AAS) is calling on Chief Justice of the Federal Court Tun Md Raus Sharif and Court of Appeal president Tan Sri Datuk Seri Zulkifli Ahmad Makinudin to immediately tender their resignation.

According to AAS president Ranbir Sing Sangha, both should announce their resignation immediately and with immediate effect because they continue to serve their present post beyond the age limit of 66 years and six months as prescribed in the Federal Constitution.

“In the recent past there have been calls from some quarters for YAA Tun Md Raus Sharif and YAA Tan Sri Datuk Seri Zulkifli Ahmad Makinudin to immediately step down and tender their resignation from their post of Chief Justice of Federal Court of Malaysia and President of Court of Appeal respectively,” said Ranbir in a statement issued to the press.

“The Advocates Association of Sarawak also believes that if they resign immediately then it would indeed be an honourable act on their part.

“Given the current development in the country, it has become untenable for them to continue holding their current post respectively,” he continued.

“There is no point keeping Malaysians waiting,” he added.

It is the view of AAS that since there are so many calls for their resignation, Raus and Zulkifli should immediately without delay inform the nation whether they would resign from their post or not, and if they are going to resign when they intend to do so.
