Ministry compounds Sg Asap traders for not displaying price tags

BINTULU: Seven traders in Sungai Asap, Belaga were issued compounds by the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism ( KPDNKK) for failure to display prices of goods sold.

KPDNKK Bintulu chief Salihin Den said the seven cases recorded on Sunday were in violation of the Price Control Order ( Price Indication by Retailer) 1993.

“Each premises was issued with on-the- spot compound of RM100. The cases came to light following complaints from the public,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Salihin added KPDNKK enforcement teams have been checking goods and prices of goods in Tatau last week, but did not detect any violations.

“Today ( yesterday) our teams went to Sebauh to conduct checks,” he said, while pointing out that the ministry has covered nearly every business premises here since the launch of the Price Control Scheme for Hari Raya Aidilfitiri on June 8.

To- date, he was happy to note that local traders are complying with the regulations stipulated under the scheme for the controlled goods.

“I would like to thank the traders for their cooperation during this period,” he said.

Nevertheless, Salihin reminded traders to affix pink labels indicating the price per unit or per unit weight, the name describing the goods and the grade or quality, if any, of such price- controlled goods.

He also hoped traders will not sell such goods above the determined maximum price, adding that failure to comply is an offence under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

“So far, the supply of goods for the festive season in Bintulu town is sufficient,” he said when asked about the supply of essential goods for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Meanwhile, on the 11 notices issued to traders here last week over their failure to zero-rate the Goods and Services Tax ( GST), Salihin said follow-up checks by his men showed the said traders have since complied with the new policy.
