Tegas-incubated fashion startup picked for MaGIC’s GAP
KUCHING: Menur, a fashion company under Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak ( Tegas) incubation, is the only Sarawakbased startup selected for the Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre ( MaGIC)’s ‘Global Accelerator Programme’ (GAP) in Cyberjaya this month.
For its second batch of participants this year, the GAP will help equip selected global startups with the necessary skills, knowledge and network to break into Asean, and become investment-ready in four months.
The programme provides four months of mentoring, direct access to route-to-market partners such as Google, Malaysia Airlines Bhd, Maxis, Maybank and Media Prima, accommodation and flight reimbursements, marketing allowance and monthly stipend, six-month professional visitor’s pass, as well as benefits worth over US$ 500,000 from Amazon Web Services, 123RF, Canva, GRAB and ipay88.
Last year, the GAP was ranked as among the top 10 most active accelerators in the world.
It was also recognised as the ‘Best Accelerator Programme’ by Asean Rice Bowl Startup Awards’ and ‘Malaysia Rice Bowl Startup Awards’ last year.
“We are really excited to be chosen as one of the participants for GAP and cannot wait for our upcoming sessions with the local and international mentors. In fact, we have already applied what we learned from the previous ‘ Tegas Pre-Accelerator Bootcamp’, conducted by Tegas Digital Innovation Hub ( TDIH) where we emerged among the winners,” said Natasha Jasmina Edwina, who is the founder of Menur – a company that manufactures high- quality scarves, which are already being exported to Brunei and Indonesia.
It is currently a participant of Tegas Startup Lab ( TSL), a one-year structured incubation programme that aims to equip Sarawak entrepreneurs with the tools to sustain and accelerate their business growth and builds on Sarawak government’s digital economy blueprint.
Apart from Menur, four outstanding startups selected for GAP 2018 are Trifold X, The Tuyang Initiative, Thirst Milkshake and Digital Curve.
“We believe that all five have the talent, skills and ambition to succeed in today’s digital economy. TSL is our investment to produce potential startups for the Digital Village, and towards empowering young entrepreneurs in Sarawak,” says Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh, who is also Tegas chairman.
