Man remanded for criminal intimidation, causing hurt
MIRI: A magistrates’ court here yesterday remanded a man for three days to assist with the investigation of a case of criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt.
Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa ordered the suspect, 39, to be remanded at the Miri Central police station in accordance with Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
When submitting the remand application, investigating officer Insp Mohammad Nashriq Noring had requested the suspect be remanded for four days to facilitate a detailed investigation.
However, Zuraini only granted a three- day remand and ordered the suspect be brought back to court on Thursday (June 14) for further mention.
Mohammad Nashriq had told the court that on Saturday (June 9), the complainant filed a report alleging that at 9.50pm on Friday, upon reaching home from terawih prayers, his mother had told him that the son of their landlord had gone to their rented house and allegedly assaulted her using his arm while holding a parang and demanding house rent.
Following the incident, the complainant and his father met with the man to clarify the matter, but the man then allegedly attacked the complainant’s father, leaving him with injuries to his hand and fingers.
The man also allegedly summoned his friends, and one of these friends allegedly assaulted the complainant’s father using a parang and also kicked him.
Acting on information received, police arrested a man, around 10.50am on Sunday (June 10) behind an unnumbered house at Jalan Pujut Tanjong Batu 5 in connection with the case.
During the arrest, police also seized a parang from the suspect.
