FAS case: Minister tells association’s chief to lodge MACC report

-

KUCHING: Football Association Sarawak ( FAS) president Dato Posa Majais should lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission ( MACC) over the allegation of RM91 million missing from the association’s coffers.

In this respect, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah believes that such case must be handled by the relevant authority and for the culprit to be brought to justice.

“Yes, I was informed about that yesterday. My advice is for him ( Posa) to lodge a report and to let the authority handle the case,” the minister said when met by The Borneo Post here yesterday.

According to Abdul Karim, FAS has always been a grant recipient, receiving RM3.5 million annually but at the same time, it is independent in its management.

“However given the current development, I believe that Sarawak needs to know about the current issues involving the association.”

Abdul Karim also said as suggested by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, FAS would need to be revamped.

“I will meet with Posa soon to discuss this case and at the same time, to advise them on ways to revamp FAS,” he said.

As at press time, attempts to contact Posa and get his comments failed.

On Monday, Posa disclosed that based on records from 2015 to 2016, a sum of RM91 million was missing from FAS coffers.
