Lorry driver jailed, fined for obstructin­g policeman

PETALING JAYA: A lorry driver was sentenced to five days jails and fined RM2,500 by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for obstructin­g a policeman from dischargin­g his duty.

Magistrate Nurulhuda Zakariya handed down the sentence on Shahirol Amizi Salleh, 37, who pleaded guilty to the charge of obstructin­g Corporal Mohd Yusof Mohd Nor, who was on crime-prevention patrol, from dischardin­g his duty.

The offence was committed at Kesas Expressway, Bandar Sunway here at 12.45pm last June 8.

Shahirol Amizi, unrepresen­ted, was ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on June 8.

According to the facts of the case, the police had stopped Shahirol Amizi, who then fled with his lorry when questioned by the policeman after giving his identity card and driving licence.

Deputy public prosecutor Fazeedah Faik prosecuted.

Meanwhile, at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court, an icecream seller, Mohamad Habib Abdul Jabar,32, and Jamalhayat Ahmad Sani, 29, who is a part-time draftsman, pleaded not guilty to having a knife belt buckle | each.

They were alleged to be in possession of the offensive weapon at the parking area of the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, Jalan Tunku Abdul Halim here at 1.15pm last May 22.

Judge Dr Gan Chee Keong set June 26 and July 10 for mention of Mohamad Habib and Jamalhayat’s case, respective­ly. — Bernama
