Taiwan Ministry of Education launches new online Mandarin learning material

KUALA LUMPUR: Taiwan Ministry of Education ( MOE) has launched an online learning initiative ‘ Huayu 101’ – a brand new online Mandarin learning material in Taipei, Taiwan recently.

The contents of ‘ Huayu 101’ include accommodat­ion, shopping, food ordering, traffic, emergency help and more. It is useful for foreign students and travelers who stay in Taiwan and can be applied to other Mandarin- speaking regions, a statement said.

The designer of ‘ Huayu 101’, Professor Chang Yuhsin from the University of Taipei has more than 20 years Mandarin teaching experience. He and his team has collected key phrases that people should learn for basic survival to provide easier learning experience.

Taiwan MOE also works with youtuber, Logan D. Beck to produce videos promoting Mandarin learning and Taiwan’s culture in order to attract and motivate young people to learn Mandarin in Taiwan.

Taiwan’s Chinese language education sector is looking outward and internatio­nal marketing in response to global demand for Chinese language education which led to planning and implementi­ng the Eight-year Chinese Language Education Promotion Plan (2013–2020).
