Hope Place presents one-off contribution to family

-

KUCHING: Hope Place recently handed over a one- off contribution consisting of adult diapers, Ensure milk and basic food items to Liew Nyun Chuk of Asajaya.

Its founder Kelvin Wan said he was informed by Liew of his family’s struggle to make ends meet as his son, Liew Thian Soong is paralysed and has been bedridden for the past two years due to stroke.

“Liew is 76 years old and his wife is visually impaired due to diabetes. He informed me that his daughter-in-law ( Thian Soong’s wife) also has to undergo dialysis every week.

“Thian Soong has three schoolgoing children and the family’s main source of income comes from selling coconuts. However sales has been slow lately and Liew decided to reach out to Hope Place for assistance,” he said in a press statement here yesterday.

Wan said the one- off contribution from Hope Place is enough to sustain the family for six months.

“Thian Soong is also an OKU ( disabled) card holder and therefore received RM350 assistance from the State Welfare Department.

“I was also informed that the local Methodist church in Asajaya also supports the family by providing them food aid on a monthly basis,” he said.

Hope Place currently supports more than 200 families by contributing some essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits, and noodles. Many of these families or individuals barely earn enough to get through the month, hence many are grateful for the assistance with the basic necessities delivered to them.
