Dayak ladies to get together at Gawai

MIRI: About 200 Dayak ladies will gather at Dynasty Hotel tonight (June 15) to celebrate Gawai Dayak.

The Gawai Dayak Get-Together is organised by the Orang Ulu Ladies Group Miri.

According to the organising chairlady Kijan Toynbee, the gathering offers an opportunit­y for guests to get closer to one another and celebrate the festive occasion.

To be held at the Dynasty Hotel ballroom at 6.30pm the dinner is expected to be graced by Telang Usan assemblyma­n Dennis Ngau.

“Various programmes have been planned for the night, especially cultural programmes, as Gawai Dayak is also a celebratio­n of multiracia­l and multicultu­ral diversity,” said Kijan.

Among the programmes planned for the dinner are Datun Julut dance, sape performanc­e and Lekobiat dance.

“There will also be lucky draw offering various attractive prizes,” said Kijan, adding that the gathering is also an annual event by the Orang Ulu Ladies Group Miri.
