Gawai do com­mit­tee calls on Taib

KUCH­ING: The Yang di-Per­tua Negeri Tun Pe­hin Sri Ab­dul Taib Mah­mud yes­ter­day re­ceived a cour­tesy call from the state-level Gawai Dayak Cel­e­bra­tion or­gan­is­ing com­mit­tee at his res­i­dence in De­mak Jaya here.

The visit by the del­e­ga­tion, led by Deputy Chief Min­is­ter Datuk Amar Dou­glas Ug­gah Em­bas, was to in­vite the Head of State to at­tend the state-level Gawai Dayak 2018 din­ner which will be held at Pen­view Con­ven­tion Cen­tre ( PCC) here on June 23.

Ac­cord­ing to a press state­ment, some 2,000 guests are ex­pected to at­tend the din­ner.

This year’s cel­e­bra­tion will fea­ture ex­cit­ing ac­tiv­i­ties such as Gawai Bazaar, which is now be­ing held in all di­vi­sions in Sarawak from Lim­bang to Kuch­ing.

There will also be a pro­ces­sion called `Niti Daun’ on June 22, which will see the var­i­ous Dayak com­mu­ni­ties dressed in their re­spec­tive tra­di­tional cos­tumes as they march to­wards Kuch­ing Wa­ter­front.

Also present at the cour­tesy call were Deputy Chief Min­is­ter Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Je­mut Mas­ing, Util­i­ties Min­is­ter Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom who is also the event’s or­gan­is­ing chair­man, As­sis­tant Min­is­ter of Youth and Sports Datuk Snow­dan Lawan and Deputy State Sec­re­tary Datu Jaul Samion.
