Gawai do committee calls on Taib

KUCHING: The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud yesterday received a courtesy call from the state-level Gawai Dayak Celebratio­n organising committee at his residence in Demak Jaya here.

The visit by the delegation, led by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, was to invite the Head of State to attend the state-level Gawai Dayak 2018 dinner which will be held at Penview Convention Centre ( PCC) here on June 23.

According to a press statement, some 2,000 guests are expected to attend the dinner.

This year’s celebratio­n will feature exciting activities such as Gawai Bazaar, which is now being held in all divisions in Sarawak from Limbang to Kuching.

There will also be a procession called `Niti Daun’ on June 22, which will see the various Dayak communitie­s dressed in their respective traditiona­l costumes as they march towards Kuching Waterfront.

Also present at the courtesy call were Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, Utilities Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom who is also the event’s organising chairman, Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan and Deputy State Secretary Datu Jaul Samion.
