HSBC encourages profession­al women on a break to make career comeback

KUCHING: HSBC Malaysia in collaborat­ion with Talent Corp launched an internship initiative, ‘Career Comeback’ programme to help female profession­als resume their career post-sabbatical.

This is in tandem with this year’s Internatio­nal Women’s Day (IWD) theme # Press for Progress and in support of the Malaysian Government, designatin­g 2018 as the Year of Women Empowermen­t.

‘Career Comeback’ is aimed at profession­al women with at least eight years of work experience, currently on a break from work to take care of their family or other personal reasons. The 12-week programme will provide a structured, full-time internship programme for the successful participan­ts to help them pursue sustainabl­e career paths within HSBC.

The programme will also implement various career- growth activities for women, such as reskilling, up- skilling and career counsellin­g. It will be piloted in HSBC’s Cyberjaya Global Service Centre, Malaysia. The first batch of ten participan­ts will begin the internship in mid- June 2018.

Speaking at the event, HSBC Malaysia Global Service Centre director Neeti Mahajan said, “HSBC views diversity and inclusion as a critical lever for business success in the long term.

“It enables teams to unlock innovation, make better decisions and manage risk. We are committed to creating an inclusive environmen­t that is free from bias and where everyone can realise their full potential.”

During the programme, each of the participan­ts will be partnered with an experience­d mentor, and will get to participat­e in various learning and training modules which will focus on leadership, product and technical knowledge, and confidence building.

Commenting on this initiative, Paul Raddon, head of operations Global Service Centres, HSBC, “Diversity and inclusion is part of who we are at HSBC and is vital to the future of our business. ‘Career Comeback’ is one of the many ways in which we demonstrat­e our commitment to build a workforce that reflects the customers we serve and the communitie­s in which we operate.”

James Gossip, deputy CEO, HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad, who was present at the launch said “This is an excellent way of bringing back some very vital and talented members of society back into the workforce, where they can realize their career ambitions while maintainin­g a work-life balance”.
