Star supports govt in fight for rights on oil and gas — Soo
KUCHING: State Reform Party ( Star) fully supports the government’s mission to get back Sarawak’s rights including its rights on oil and gas.
However, its president Lina Soo, said this did not mean that the party would be joining Gabungan Parti Sarawak ( GPS) anytime soon.
“Star will not join GPS, not until we have the same agenda. What worries us is that GPS might be in the opposition today, but we do not know what will happen tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. What if they decide to join Pakatan Harapan ( PH) if Tun Mahathir accepts them?
“What will happen to Star because Star will always remain an opposition until we have successfully become the government in Sarawak,” she told a press conference which was also attended by Star chairman Buln Ribos and vice chairman Mesah

Soo added that Star would continue to monitor GPS and PH because the party ( Star) would continue to fight for the people.
“Star thus supports the government of the day to fight for Sarawak’s rights on oil and gas following Petronas’ attempt to subvert and undermine Sarawak and the authorities.
“Many people accused me of supporting GPS...this is rubbish. We support the government of the day. What is important is when we face an outside threat such as Petronas in this instance, Sarawakians have to come forward and be united.”
On the formation of GPS, Soo described it as a good move because Barisan Nasional ( BN) doesn’t exist anymore in Sarawak.
“I can say that most Sarawakians are happy that there’s no more BN in Sarawak. This means the end of the Malayan agenda in Sarawak.
“Sarawakians are now ready. We are qualified and can administer our own territory,” she said.
She added that GPS could form a formidable alliance of Sarawak political parties and as such create awareness of Sarawak’s maturity in politics and ready to reinforce the terms and condition of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 ( MA63).
