KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Armed Forces ( MAF) should continue to maintain continuity of its services in safeguarding the peace and prosperity of the nation for the next generation, said Chief of Defence Forces Gen Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor.

He said the sacrifice of every MAF personnel for the people and country could not be measured or compensated with medals and the like. Raja Mohamed Affandi said the armed forces had placed their services above everything else in defending the sovereignty of the nation.

“Throughout my 42 years in the armed forces, I had always been proud of the personnel who, with their strong character and high self- esteem had been capable of defending the country from external elements that can undermine peace and harmony.

“By the acknowledgement received from foreign countries, MAF is respected and feared by our friends and foes,” he said after an appreciation parade for the 19th Chief of Defence Forces at Dataran Panglima Tentera Darat, Perdana Camp, Sungai Besi, yesterday.

He hoped the unity demonstrated by the MAF all this while would remain intact though the leadership which he had led since 2016, would be changing hands.

The parade was held yesterday to mark Raja Mohamed Affandi’s retirement as the Chief of Defence Forces effective yesterday.

Raja Mohamed Affandi, 60, who was appointed the Chief of Defence Forces in Dec 2016, was the Army Chief from June 14, 2013.

Born in Kampung Raja Besut, Terengganu on June 20, 1957, he received his early education at Kampung Raja School before completing his secondary education at Sultan Ismail Secondary School.

He then attended training as the Pre- Officer Cadet Training Unit ( Pre- OCTU) at Officers Cadet School in Sebatang Karah Camp in Port Dickson and subsequently completed the Officers Cadet Course at the Royal Military College, Sungai Besi Camp.

He was commissioned as Royal Malay Regiment Infantry Officer with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant on May 11, 1977.

Throughout my 42 years in the armed forces, I had always been proud of the personnel who, with their strong character and high self-esteem had been capable of defending the country from external elements that can undermine peace and harmony.
