M’sia-China movie Blue Tears hits theatres nationwide today
MIRI: The much- awaited movie Blue Tears – the first Malaysia- China joint production – hits 34 major theatres throughout the country today.
The 90-minute movie tells a story of a young man, Ling Fu Sheng (Sun Wei) from China who arrives on the shores of Miri and falls in love with a local girl, Katrina.
However, Katrina’s parents object to their relationship, causing the frustrated Ling to return to China and end up marrying someone else.
Years go by when one day, an ageing Ling ( played by Hong Kong star Ringo Yu) tells his grandson that he had never really forgotten his lovely Katrina. This prompts Ling’s grandson to embark on a journey to Miri, determined to find Katrina – his grandfather’s first love.
History seems to repeat itself as Ling’s grandson, Lin Xu Yao, in his mission to find his grandfather’s first love Katrina, meets a local girl and eventually falls in love with her.
During the search, Lin discovers the mysterious Mulu Cave, frightening headhunters and the wonderful and magnificent Tusan beach, the famous ‘blue tears’ beach.
Blue Tears is a joint venture between China-Malaysia Universal Television Company (Malaysia) and Global Business International Group Ltd (China).
Executive Director of Global China Film ( Malaysia) Sdn Bhd Simon Yong meanwhile urged the people, especially Malaysians, to support the movie by going to theatres and to promote it to friends the world over.
“We take pride in this movie – the first ever being produced locally in Miri through joint cooperation with our counterpart in China. I humbly appeal for strong support so that it could be successful in promoting Sarawak and China.
“The success could pave way for more movies and opportunities for locals to star in the movies and be known internationally,” said Yong to reporters here yesterday.
He said the shooting locations covered Malaysia, China, and Brunei, and that the movie presents the ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative and features 80 per cent of local cast.
Two actresses in the film are locals, namely Clara Wong Yi Xuan and Debbie Kenstern Merang.
Yong also thanked the Sarawak government and Sarawak Tourism Board for their encouragement and assistance in developing and promoting tourism in Miri.
“Our next goal will be looking at screening our movie in other countries. Through Blue Tears, we hope to set the impression of Malaysia as a multi-racial country with beautiful cities to people all over the world,” he added.
