PDK Kapit holds 5-in-1 festive gathering cum open day for children, parents
KAPIT: The Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre ( PDK) Kapit held a ‘5-in-1 Festive Party’ event yesterday to coincide with its open day.
Its chairlady Moonly Tiang said it is the centre’s ‘ tradition’ to organise festive gatherings for special needs children and their parents, as well as invited guests.
“This ‘5-in-1’ party is organised to celebrate Christmas, New Year’s Day, Chinese New Year, Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Our aim is to bring festive cheer to our inmates, children with special needs, their parents and also guests.
“We also hold our open day at the same time where government department heads, community leaders, NGOs and individuals are invited to see what we do here,” she said.
Moonly also expressed her gratitude to the Welfare Department, members of the public, associations, NGOs and many others for their continuous support in the form of grants and donations.
“The money we receive goes toward supporting PDK Kapit’s activities. I would also like to thank Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit who has been very supportive of our work and has always allocated MRP funds for the centre,” she added.
PDK Kapit currently provides training for 42 special needs children and also conducts home visits every Friday to 10 locations along Sungai Sesibau, Jalan Bukit Goram, Kampung Balang, Kampung Sawang, Jalan Melekun and others.
It is currently raising funds to purchase a van to transport special needs children, whose parents are unable to do so, to the centre for training.
Among those present at the event yesterday were councillor Jenny Yii, businessman Dato Yong Hua Sying, Kapit Lions Club president Teng Bee Eng and Kapit Foochow Association chairman Sii Bang Ee.
