Dennis assures community leaders their service not terminated

-

LONG SELAPUN, Baram: Village headmen including councillors in the interior of Baram have been told that their appointment as community leaders is still valid.

Speaking at a ‘ Leader with the People’ gathering at Long Selapun, Tinjar in Baram yesterday, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau quashed the allegation and claims made by certain quarters that their appointment as community leaders was terminated by the new Pakatan Harapan ( PH) federal government.

“It is just rumours made by irresponsible individuals and groups to instigate fear and confuse the grassroots leaders and people. Your appointment has nothing to do with the federal government and you are appointed by the state government. The state government is still led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg,” said Dennis, who reminded them to continue to carry out their duties and responsibilities entrusted to them.

Meanwhile, village headman Bagok Usat, who was among those attending the gathering, requested assistance from the government to complete their 40- door longhouse which has been delayed for two years.

Due to financial constraint the longhouse folk only managed to complete the roof with the zinc sheets provided by the government.

In his reply, Dennis said 30 bags of cement would be given to each of the 40 families in the new longhouse.

He advised them to utilise the cement to build the floor of the longhouse and to also seek assistance from companies operating in the area.

The assemblyman also advised them to utilise their land for modern agriculture to improve their economic standing.

He also told them to seek advice and guidance from the Agriculture Department and related agencies on modern farming suitable for the area.

“It will serve no purpose to quarrel with the government just to keep the land as inheritance for the future generations. It would be better for you to utilise them to improve the quality of living through modern farming rather than leaving them idle,” he added.

Also present was Telang Usan Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) Youth chairman Cr Dominic Nyurang.
