Abdul Rahman: Connect all schools to electricit­y grid

LIMBANG: Assistant Minister of Agricultur­e Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail wants schools in Sarawak, particular­ly rural schools, to be provided with 24-hour electricit­y from the grid.

He reasoned that constant supply of electricit­y was very important for conducive teaching and learning environmen­t in schools.

“Schools that are located just a few kilometres away from the grid system should be connected to the facility, and thus doing away with diesel-run generators for electricit­y supply.

“With the availabili­ty of continuous electricit­y, students and teachers could enjoy uninterrup­ted teaching and learning experience,” he said at the meet- the- people session organised by Education Centre of Excellence of Limbang District Education office and Bukit Kota Service Centre, here yesterday.

Limbang education officer Matzinan Wahid was among those present.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Bukit Kota assemblyma­n, added that connection to the power grid was important in solving problems such as the recent disruption of diesel supply to several schools in Sarawak.

He said regardless who the ruling government was there must be continuous efforts to upgrade other basic infrastruc­ture in Sarawak, such as hospitals.

He also said all must play their roles to work towards enhancing the standard of education and excellent results in public examinatio­ns.

A the function he presented a total of RM218,000 in government grants to 51 associatio­ns and groups here.
