KUCHING: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak’s twoweek operation during the Aidilfitri season involved the inspection on 8,527 vehicles and issuance of 651 summonses for various offences.

The ‘Ops Khas Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2018’ concluded last Sunday.

According to JPJ Sarawak director Mohd Syafiq Anas Abdullah, the summonses were issued for a wide range of offences including driving without licenses which recorded 267 cases, possession of ‘fancy’ plate numbers with 110 cases, and expired driving licences with 86 cases.

“Other offences include overtaking along the doubleline stretches, driving with bald tyres and overloading,” he said in statement yesterday.

JPJ Sarawak also issued a total of 256 warning notices to motorists during the operation, he said.

It had also taken action against several vehicle owners who disobeyed the prohibition of vehicle usage imposed upon them two days before the festive celebration and two days before the end of ‘Ops Khas Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2018’.

“In this regard, a total of 23 summonses were issued on the said period (two days before Hari Raya and two last days of the operation).

“The objective of the operation is to provide comfort to road users and at the same time, instil and advocate better civic-consciousness in them by raising the perception of ‘being caught’.

“This is meant as a way to reduce road accidents and fatalities,” added Mohd Syafiq.
