Dr Wan Azizah: Parents Day to be celebrated on first Sunday in July

-

KANGAR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail yesterday announced that the annual Parents Day would be celebrated on the first Sunday in July.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is also Women, Family and Community Development Minister said the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day that were previously celebrated on different dates, would now be merged as one celebration.

“The Parents Day celebration is to honour their commitment and sacrifices in educating and raising children.

“It is all due to the determination and commitment of the parents, to establish a happy and prosperous family,” she said at the National level Parents Day celebration, themed ‘ Parents – Our Greatest Gifts’ at the Dewan 2020, here.

She also said with the increased number of successful working women that have impacted the family institution, her ministry would establish the National Family Well-Being Advisory and Consultative Council (MPPKKN) in August.

“One in five working women faces problems to strike a balance between career and family with the main issues include finding time to spend with family, childcare and less time for themselves,” said Dr Wan Azizah.

She said the Family Well-Being Index Study of 2016 also found that family ties in Malaysia were still at a moderate level.

Dr Wan Azizah said she would chair the MPPKKN, which would act as the main advisory body to the government on family issues.

“The council will also increase the commitment and involvement of various parties to prioritise the family perspective in all socioeconomic development efforts including law enforcement, policies and services as well as family-friendly facilities,” she said. — Bernama
