Police to undergo restructuring, some taskforces to be disbanded — Minister
KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police ( PDRM) is to undergo a restructuring for performance improvement that will involve several departments and taskforces, Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said yesterday.
He said he attended a meeting and was given a briefing on the matter by the police senior management.
“Several taskforces will be disbanded because we want a better outcome from the Royal Malaysia Police,” he said, adding that the decision on the restructuring would be known in a week or two after he gets more input from the police.
Muhyiddin spoke to reporters after attending an Aidilfitri open house of the Inspector- General of Police (IGP) at Bukit Aman here.
He explained that the restructuring was for the performance improvement of the PDRM so as to regain the people’s confidence in the police and restore its image as a respected force.
Meanwhile, IGP Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the taskforces that would be involved in the restructuring were the Special Task Force on Organised Crime ( STAFOC), Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (STAGG) and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING).
“We will make an internal restructuring and revamp,” he said when approached at the function.
Mohamad Fuzi said the PDRM would prepare a comprehensive report on the restructuring soon. — Bernama
