Internatio­nal Day of Yoga at Reservoir Park this Sunday

KUCHING: The United Nations’ Internatio­nal Day of Yoga will be celebrated this Sunday (July 1) at Taman Budaya Reservoir Park here from 7am to 9am.

According to a press release, the Internatio­nal Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practising yoga.

Recognisin­g its universal appeal, on Dec 11, 2014, the United Nations proclaimed June 21 as Internatio­nal Day of Yoga through its resolution 69/131.

Sunday’s event is organised by Brahma Kumaris Malaysia ( Kuching branch), with the participat­ion of Ami Lee Yoga Studio for hatha yoga demonstrat­ion and it is supported by the Indian High Commission.

The celebratio­n will include a continuous guided physical activity by qualified instructor from Ami Lee Yoga Studio for participan­ts to experience various hatha yoga postures and Raja Yoga meditation by Brahma Kumaris to enhance mental strength and attaining inner peace.

Similar events are coordinate­d by Brahma Kumaris with other organisati­ons in other major cities in Malaysia such as Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Johor Bahru, Penang and Kota Kinabalu.

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice skill that originated in India.

The word ‘ Yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and it means to join and unite, symbolisin­g the union of body and consciousn­ess.

People from any religion and background can practise yoga as it is an art to keep both the body and mind healthy.

This is an important aspect in human’s life because both physical and healthy mind are essential for a happy life.

Those interested to join this free event at Reservoir Park are reminded to bring along their own yoga mat.
