All but new JPJ programmes to go on, says director
KUCHING: All existing programmes under the Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) except new ones will carry on as usual despite the recent change of the federal government.
Its director Mohd Syafiq Anas Abdullah said new programmes that were approved by the former (federal) minister would have to be put on hold.
He added that the new Minister of Transport Anthony Loke had announced the need to review some of the programmes to reduce cost of implementation to benefit more Malaysians.
“If there is any latest develoment, we will make an announcement. But at the moment, all programmes that have been launched will go on.
“But for new programmes, we put on hold first because there may be review of participants and cost of implementation,” he said when met at the Majlis Ramah Tamah held at Sarawak JPJ Complex in Kuching- Serian Road here yesterday.
He said this when prompted for the status of ‘One Community One JPJ’ programme launched last year to benefit Malaysians who wanted to acquire the B2 licence.
The programme has been held in four places in Sarawak prior to the May 9 general election.
“We have held it in four places this year. Actually it was nine ( places).
“Due to the change in government and since the new minister has announced the need to review some of the programmes approved by former minister, we will put them on hold first,” he added.
Other programmes such as ‘JPJ Bersama Anda’ (JPJ With You) programme and initiatives such as reducing traffic compounds and summons will go on, he added.
On the One Community One JPJ programme, Syafiq said more than 3,000 Sarawakians had benefited since the beginning of this year.
Meanwhile, over 600 participants in Asajaya, over 1,000 each in Limbang and Debak and over 500 in Serembu, will benefit from the programme soon.
With him at the event was Sarawak Federal Secretary Dato Mansor Man, who urged all government departments and agencies to work closely together with the Sarawak government despite the change in government at the federal level.
He said from the perspective of collaboration, all departments and agencies should work together as usual.
“From time to time, we shall have to refer to the federal government to see how we can help the Sarawak government implement various programmes and activities.”
On collaboration, Mansor said the various departments such as Immigration Department, National Registration Department and Education Department ought to work closely with the Sarawak government to deliver quality services to the people.
“The role of the federal government is to continue bringing development to Sarawak like before,” he added.
