Man jailed 22 months after pleading guilty to three criminal charges

SIBU: A 24-year- old man was yesterday sentenced by a magistrate’s court here to a total of one year and 10 months’ jail after he pleaded guilty to criminal intimidati­on, causing mischief and abusing drugs.

Dismond Tegak was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidati­on which provides for a jail term that may extend to seven years, or with fine, or both on conviction.

He threatened one Shahraskhi­kin not to report to the police after he damaged a car and a motorcycle at a factory in Lanang Road about 6.45pm on June 24. He was sentenced to six months’ jail.

He also faced two charges under Section 427 of the Penal code for committing mischief which carries a jail term of between one year and five years and also liable to a fine.

He damaged a car worth RM5,500 and a motorcycle worth RM708 about 6.45pm on June 24 at a factory in Lanang Road.

For damaging the car he was sentenced to one year and two months’ jail, and for damaging a motorcycle, he was sentenced to one year and six months’ jail.

The court was earlier told that about 6.45pm on June 24 Shahrashik­in heard a noise outside the factory, and went out to check.

He saw Dismond entering the factory after wandering around for a while.

Later, he saw Dismond coming out of the factory and smashing a car and a motorcycle with an iron rod. The car and motorcycle belonged to Shahrashik­in’s coworkers. Before leaving, Dismond threatened Shahrashik­in, saying ‘if you make a police report, I will hit you’.

Dismond also faced a drugabuse charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or a jail term not exceeding two years and shall undergo at least two-year supervisio­n after serving the sentence.

He was found to have consumed methamphet­amine at the Sibu Central Police Station about 10.30pm on Aug 24, 2017.

For this, he was sentenced to two months’ jail and fined RM2,000 or in default, four months’ jail. He failed to pay the fine.

All the jail sentences are to run concurrent­ly.
