Joint Gawai Kaamatan celebratio­n in Miri on July 7

KUCHING: This year’s joint Gawai Kaamatan celebratio­n by Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( DCCI) and Kadazandus­un Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( KCCI) will be held in Miri on July 7.

Organising chairman Kilat Beriak said more than 800 people including 150 from Sabah are expected to come for the celebratio­n, which culminates with a dinner to be held at Eastwood Valley Golf And Country Club.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas will be the dinner’s guest of honour, and he will be joined by his Sabahan counterpar­t Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau who will be coming as special guest.

DCCI founding president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Leonard Linggi Jugah and immediate past president Tan Sri Leo Moggie and all advisors and supreme council members of DCCI will also be in attendance.

“This joint annual event aspires to provide an avenue for the members and friends of the two chambers to enhance commercial relationsh­ip and networking.

“It also seeks to promote national unity and integratio­n between the people of Sabah and Sarawak in line with the call by our government,” said Kilat, also DCCI deputy president.

He explained that both DCCI and KCCI have been hosting this cultural event either in Sarawak or Sabah on alternate basis since 2007.

Linggi, Moggie and former KCCI president Datuk Dr Makin Marcus Mojigoh former federal minister Tan Sri Bernard Dompok from Sabah were among the key initiators of the first joint celebratio­n.

For this coming celebratio­n, Kilat said the committee has also invited Mojigoh to come.

KCCI was the host of last year’s celebratio­n at Puteri Nabalu, Kundasang, which was also attended by a big group from Sarawak.

Kilat also said the theme for this year’s celebratio­n is ‘ Modernisin­g Agricultur­e Through Digital Technology’.

Among the items lined up in the programme are cultural presentati­ons by representa­tives from the two chambers.

Meanwhile, DCCI executive secretary Terence Temenggong Jayang said a delegation led by DCCI president Datuk Joseph Salang had paid a courtesy call on Uggah on Monday.

He said the meeting was to brief Uggah on the celebratio­n and to formally invite him to grace the dinner.

Also in the delegation were DCCI secretary general Libat Langub, treasurer Allan Keripin and other supreme council members.
