Malaysia Dhamma Society to hold fundraising food fair on Sept 15 - 16

-

KUCHING: The Malaysia Dhamma Society will hold the ‘Share the Love’ food fair in connection with the 10th anniversary celebration of Tusita Hermitage.

Funds raised will go to repair, build, and upgrade basic facilities at the hermitage.

A press release on Wednesday said the fundraiser will be held at the Kuching South City Council community hall on Sept 15 from 4pm to 8pm and on Sept 16 from 7.30am to 1pm.

Organising chairman Teo Siaw Siong said the society hopes to raise at least RM500,000.

The committee has prepared 5,000 booklets of coupons priced at RM100 per booklet.

There will be some 300 stalls selling dry food products on the first day and a wide variety of food, beverages, fruits, and daily necessities on the second day.

The society will also give 20 per cent of the net proceeds to the Kidney Association of Sarawak, Hope Place Kuching, Wishesland Kuching, Kuching Life Care Society, Sarawak Society for the Deaf, Tusita Foundation, Dhamma Earth Club of Malaysia, Persatuan Penganut Agama Buddha Shakyamurni Sibu, and Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Members of the public are encouraged to bring their own tableware to eat at the venue or for takeaways.

Located at Sin San Tu, Tusita Hermitage is a Theravada Buddhist monastery with much of its original green forest preserved to provide a conducive place for monastics and laypersons to learn the Buddha’s teachings, which strongly emphasise generosity, morality, and wisdom, including through meditation.

There are also occasional leadership classes and regular Sunday Children’s Dhamma classes, weekend tuition, and activities for the whole family.

Many buildings are in need of repair due to wear and tear.

The steady increase of devotees and practitioners also means funding is needed to upkeep and upgrade the basic facilities to cater to more activities and to provide a better meditation environment.
