Saba chief: Cooperation with Austria Boxing Federation to be formalised soon
KUCHING: The Sarawak Amateur Boxing Association ( Saba) is planning to enter a mutual cooperation with the Aust rian Amateur Boxing Federation in efforts to further develop boxing in the state.
This was revealed by Saba p r e s i d e n t D a t o R a hma n Lariwoo during a Hari Raya Adi l f itri open house at his residence recently.
“We are committed to bringing the sport to greater heights and we need to embark on a five-year development plan from now to ensure that boxing will continue to grow in Sarawak.
“Sarawak has many potential boxers but without a planned development programme, these talents will go to waste.
“As such, we are planning to work closely together with the Austria Boxing Federation to secure their expertise and uplift the standard of our boxers,” he said after welcoming Austria Boxing Federation president Rich Oberbucher and his wife Elise to his open house.
He was happy that Rich was ready to share the expertise with Saba.
“We have unofficially discussed with representatives from the Austria federation and I believe their experience in developing boxing in their country can be adapted for the development of our boxers,” he noted. Rahman said the cooperation between Saba and Aus t r ia Boxing Federation would be formalised soon to prepare the state boxers for the Sukma XIX challenge in Perak this Sept 12-22.
In another development , Rahman said Saba would be organising the Sarawak Cup Box ing Championship in the Asajaya District and the competition is expected to be held in early August.
The organiser wi l l also be inviting boxers from states who are involved in Sukma XIX to compete in the meet which will be used as an exposure for the state boxers.
“I have also invited Rich to be an observer at the championship,” he added.
