12 players for sepak takraw championship in Kelantan
KUCHING: Persatuan Sepak Takraw Sarawak ( PSS) will be fielding 12 players including two Sukma XIX player at the 54th Khir Johari Gold Cup Sepak Takraw Championship in Kota Bahru, Kelantan from June 27 to July 1.
“We are aiming for a better achievement this year because we are aware that other teams will be posing a stiff challenge,” team manager Abdul Hamid Sulaiman said.
“Based on the preparations and the spirit displayed by the players, I believe that we can achieve our target.
“If we can finish among the top four teams, that would be a bonus to us,” he said at a state flag presentation ceremony at the Pekema Sarawak office recently.
Also present were PSS president Tan Sri Abang Khalid Abang Marzuki, vice president Fudin Chee, assistant treasurer Jaffary Idris and PSS referee chairman Amat Teni.
Hamid, who is also PSS vice president, said the players have been undergoing intensive training for a month for the prestigious championship.
According to him, the Sarawak team are guided by experienced former national coach Sharkawi Taibi and assistant coach Ahmad Sairi Awang.
“I would like to thank Tan Sri (Abang Khalid) for choosing me to be the team manager.
“Certainly, I and my team will give our best to improve our achievement with the hope of bringing glory and honour to the state,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abang expressed his optimism that this year’s team will produce the best result for Sarawak.
“Looking at the intensive preparation of all players, I believe that our players are capable of producing good results for Sarawak in the championship this time around,” he said.
