JKM welcomes help from corporate bodies in aid programme

MIRI: The Welfare Department (JKM) welcomes the participat­ion of corporate bodies in helping its welfare aid recipients across Sarawak.

According to Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, the department channels assistance to 56,000 recipients in Sarawak every year – they comprise poor families, single mothers, senior citizens and individual­s with special needs.

In this regards, she says contributi­ons from companies and other corporate organisati­ons to the needy community, through their corporate social responsibi­lity (CSR) programmes and also collaborat­ions with the government, are ‘ very much encouraged’. In particular, she commends the management of Dynasty Hotel for their ongoing support to JKM Sarawak.

This (assistance) helps those in need so that they can have better lives,” she said in her opening remarks for Dynasty Hotel’s ‘15th Charity Run’ here yesterday.

Fatimah said Dynasty Hotel has been contributi­ng to JKM’s annual ‘Sejambak Kasih’ welfare programme here, run in connection with the Chinese New Year, Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebratio­ns.

“I would like to call upon other corporate bodies to emulate Dynasty Hotel, by implementi­ng CSR activities in the form of charity programmes. Today’s charity programme proves that there are no boundaries or limits when it comes to charity,” she said.

Later, Fatimah announced a RM15,000 allocation for Dynasty Hotel Charity Run Fund as a show of her support.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who was also present, pledged another RM10,000 to the fund.

Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni and Piasau assemblyma­n Datuk Sebastian Ting followed suit, each pledging RM10,000 for the organisati­on of the run.

Telang Usan assemblyma­n Dennis Ngau, who is the advisor to Dynasty Hotel’s charity run programme, contribute­d prizes for the top 200 runners.

All proceeds from the annual charity run would go to eight charitable bodies – Malaysian Red Crescent ( MRC) Dialysis Centre Miri, Morsjaya CommunityB­ased Rehabilita­tion Centre ( PDK), Associatio­n of Parents of Children With Special Needs ( Pibakis), Sarawak Society for the Blind, Miri Home For The Aged, Diabetes Malaysia Miri Chapter, Miri Agape Welfare Organisati­on, and Sarawak Single Mothers Associatio­n – Miri Division.
