JKM welcomes help from corporate bodies in aid programme
MIRI: The Welfare Department (JKM) welcomes the participation of corporate bodies in helping its welfare aid recipients across Sarawak.
According to Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, the department channels assistance to 56,000 recipients in Sarawak every year – they comprise poor families, single mothers, senior citizens and individuals with special needs.
In this regards, she says contributions from companies and other corporate organisations to the needy community, through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes and also collaborations with the government, are ‘ very much encouraged’. In particular, she commends the management of Dynasty Hotel for their ongoing support to JKM Sarawak.

Fatimah said Dynasty Hotel has been contributing to JKM’s annual ‘Sejambak Kasih’ welfare programme here, run in connection with the Chinese New Year, Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
“I would like to call upon other corporate bodies to emulate Dynasty Hotel, by implementing CSR activities in the form of charity programmes. Today’s charity programme proves that there are no boundaries or limits when it comes to charity,” she said.
Later, Fatimah announced a RM15,000 allocation for Dynasty Hotel Charity Run Fund as a show of her support.
Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who was also present, pledged another RM10,000 to the fund.
Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni and Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting followed suit, each pledging RM10,000 for the organisation of the run.
Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, who is the advisor to Dynasty Hotel’s charity run programme, contributed prizes for the top 200 runners.
All proceeds from the annual charity run would go to eight charitable bodies – Malaysian Red Crescent ( MRC) Dialysis Centre Miri, Morsjaya CommunityBased Rehabilitation Centre ( PDK), Association of Parents of Children With Special Needs ( Pibakis), Sarawak Society for the Blind, Miri Home For The Aged, Diabetes Malaysia Miri Chapter, Miri Agape Welfare Organisation, and Sarawak Single Mothers Association – Miri Division.
