Police nab eight over two break-ins at Batu Kawah, Siburan

KUCHING: A woman was among eight persons arrested in connection with two break-ins that happened in Batu Kawah and Siburan recently.

Padawan deputy police chief DSP Merbin Lisa said police detained a 22-year- old man on suspicion of breaking into an office in Batu Kawah on June 27.

“The suspect was arrested three days later by a CID team at 3.30pm at shophouse in Batu Kawah New Township,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Merbin said initial investigat­ion indicated the suspect forced his way into the office and stole a computer set, water filter, oven, printer and a vacuum cleaner worth RM6,300 in total. He said the suspect has prior criminal records for drug abuse, housebreak­ing and theft, and has been remanded for further investigat­ion.

On the second break-in, which happened at a computer shop in Siburan on June 19, Merbin said police nabbed six men and a woman, aged between 29 and 47.

“Investigat­ion revealed a total of 22 laptops of various brands, 23 mobile phones of various brands, accessorie­s and a piggy bank were stolen.

“We recovered a mobile phone and 10 laptops from the suspects during their arrest,” he added.

The seven suspects have been remanded until July 7 for further investigat­ion to determine possible at-large accomplice­s and involvemen­t in other criminal cases.
