SCGAA to hold Chinese cultural event

SIBU: The Sarawak China Graduates Alumni Associatio­n ( SCGAA) will hold Sarawak Chinese Cultural Salon from July 9 to 15 at SMK Methodist here.

SCGAA deputy chairman Dr Wong Siu Eing said this will be one of the biggest Chinese cultural events in Sarawak with a series of activities.

“The highlight is Chinese Book Fair which will be the biggest Chinese book fair in Sarawak with all the books from China that are not available elsewhere.

“If you cannot find the books you want during the fair, book sellers will help to order them from China,” he added.

He added that students and teachers will get 20 per cent discount, while public or private libraries will enjoy 30 per cent discount.

A calligraph­y exhibition will also be held throughout the event, with the Chinese Orchestra Concert to be held at University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS) on July 11 from 7 to 8.30pm.

The Chinese Orchestra will put their various musical instrument­s on display at SMK Methodist before the concert on July 1.

Other activities include a lecture, education session, 30minute reading involving 400 students, lion dance, a dialogue session, literature and art session and internatio­nal Chinese proficienc­y competitio­n.

All activities will be held at SMK Methodist except the concert.

SCGAA secretary Pau Kek Ping and committee member Goh Lee Bing were also present at the press conference.
