SEB Technology Day - matching technology providers with users

KUCHING: Sarawak Energy’s annual Technology Day aims to match technology providers with the people who use technology in charting its technology roadmap.

The 2018 edition, according to a press release yesterday, features keynote addresses by internatio­nally renowned speakers from the field of innovative solutions, Swarmx founder Pulkit Jaiswal and Huawei Enterprise Business Group Energy Sector deputy director Francis Wong Kiam Foi.

Held at Menara Sarawak Energy over two days, the event also featured an exhibition with technology partners and was open to selected schools to allow students to see real life applicatio­ns of technology in the power industry.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who was at Menara SEB for Sarawak Energy Ramah Tamah gathering took time to visit the exhibition.

SEB Group chief executive officer (CEO) Sharbini Suhaili said in order to stay relevant, the Sarawak Energy workforce must embrace technology and optimise its usage.

“We want to create awareness in Sarawak Energy of how we currently leverage on technology in our day-to-day operations, and what we can achieve on the digital front. We also want to show to everyone how important technology is to us and how it can be an enabler to achieve our vision,” he said.

He urged Sarawak Energy’s multi-disciplina­ry workforce to be agile in adapting to changing technology to perform more efficientl­y, including embracing various digital innovation­s introduced for its customers as well as the employees.

“We aim to be a digital utility by 2025 to better serve the people of Sarawak, and by having a culture of openness to the changes, we can move forward together towards a successful transforma­tion. We must embrace technology as part of our delivery mechanism in pursuit of excellence in our key focus areas, in support of and in tandem with the State’s ambition for Sarawak to become a digital economy,” he said.

He disclosed that SEB has embarked on a suite of corporatew­ide process improvemen­t and enterprise-modernisat­ion initiative­s under its ‘Pinnacle Programme’ in order to achieve more efficient and cost effective work processes and service delivery.

These digital transforma­tion initiative­s, he elaborated, are at various stages of implementa­tion and cover different aspects of the business including human resource, finance and procuremen­t, asset management as well as fleet management.

Sarawak Energy is also among participat­ing organisati­ons in the Sarawak’s digital leadership and competency building programmes like the Digital Leadership Academy driven by Sarawak Centre of Performanc­e Excellence or SCOPE.

Also present at the event, which was spearheade­d by Sarawak Energy’s Research and Developmen­t Department, were Group chief operating officer Lu Yew Hung, executive vice president for Corporate Services Aisah Eden, vice president for Research and Developmen­t Dr Chen Shiun, senior management team and staff.
