JULAU : The local education fraternity especially teachers play a key role in efforts to improve Julau’s economic and social landscape as education is the basic means to help realise the people’s aspiration to transform it into a dynamic agricultural hub.

Meluan assemblyman, Rolland Duat when officiating at Julau district-level 2017 Excellent Service Award (APC) ceremony and Teacher’s Day celebration at a hotel in Sibu recently said he had always placed high hopes on teachers to help prosper Julau and its people.

He thus called on the teachers to continue enriching themselves with new knowledge to ensure their students were not left behind in terms of exposure to information technology input.

He also noted that some of the local teachers had qualified for 2017 Excellent Service Award. Rolland viewed this as an acknowledgement towards commitment and hoped they would strive to improve further.

He assured the teachers and the local education fraternity in general of his support by allocating to them a fair share of his annual minor rural project (MRP) fund.

For instance, last year, he allocated a sum of RM10,000 each to all schools in Meluan apart from giving other incentives., he said, adding this year, he would give every school RM3,000.

During the function, Rolland handed over RM35,000 to the organising committee to cover the cost of the dinner.

He also presented incentives of RM7,000 to SK Nanga Ensiring and SK Lubok Assam for achieving 100 per cent passing rate in last year’s UPSR and RM5,000 to SK Nanga Serau for achieving 87.5 per cent passing rate.

Among those present were a representative from Julau district Education Office, Thaddeus Liyam Chabu, chairman of Julau District Headmasters Council, Zamerene Ruin and SMk Pakan principal Lulong Atoi.
