School’s joint Gawai-Raya do fosters closer ties between teachers, parents

SIBU: It was a joyous occasion at the joint Gawai-Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering hosted by the parent-teacher associatio­n (PTA) of SK St Mary at the school hall yesterday.

According to PTA chairman Sayed Azmee Wan Junaidi, the programme comprised the ‘ngiling bidai’ ceremony to mark the closing of Gawai Dayak celebratio­ns and also the Aidilfitri open house, in view that it was still in the month of Syawal on the Muslim calendar.

“This is vital in helping to produce a future generation that is able to continue promoting and upholding peaceful and harmonious living environmen­t,” he spoke at the event, which also honoured SK St Mary headmaster Richard Anok Jalom, who would be retiring soon.

Additional­ly, Sayed Azmee said the event also served to further strengthen the rapport between the teachers and parents.

In this sense, he called upon all parents to strive in allocating their time to be involved in the school’s various activities.

“This, in return, will motivate and encourage their children to study even harder, seeing the involvemen­t of their parents in school’s activities,” he pointed out.
