Ministry acts against non-compliance
SIBU: Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism ( KPDNKK) inspected 118 business premises in Sibu Division for the whole month of June, issuing four notices under Section 21 of the Price Control and AntiProfiteering Act 2011.
According to KPDNKK Sibu chief Roslee Maslie, the inspection was to check on operators’ compliance with the directive to implement zero- per cent Goods and Services Tax ( GST), which took effect on June 1.
“From the 118 premises inspected, four notices under Section 21 of Price Control and Anti- Profiteering Act 2011 were issued as we found that prices (of goods) remained the same after the implementation of zero- per cent GST,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.
Roslee disclosed that enforcement officers checked a total of 3,540 items in the 118 premises inspected.
He noted that all the premises had converted their systems to zero per cent GST from six per cent previously.
To ensure traders comply with the implementation of zero-rated GST, consumers are advised to examine the purchase receipt to ensure GST is rated zero.
On another matter, Roslee said traders had cooperated very well with the agency throughout the enforcement the 15- day Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive price- control scheme from June 8 to 22.
