DCCI, KCCI need to work together to help members excel, says Sabah DCM

MIRI: Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( DCCI) and Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( KCCI) of Sabah need to work together to help Dayak and Kadazandusun entrepreneurs excel to a new level.

Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau, who is also its Minister of Trade and Industry, said the time has come for both organisations to sit down and discuss on how they could help their members become as successful as those from other communities in the country.

“DCCI and KCCI have forged a good collaboration between the Dayaks and Kadazandusuns for a very long time. It is time to bring this collaboration further, for the benefit of the members.

“The collaboration should not be limited to meeting once a year, but it should be bilateral between both parties, by holding regular discussions on how to help their respective members in the industries,” he spoke at the 12th Gawai Kaamatan Dinner, hosted by DCCI and KCCI at Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club on Saturday.

Madius also proposed for both chambers to set up a joint committee and meet up with Dayak and Kadazandusun leaders.

“The time has also come for you to meet the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed. I am confident that there are a lot (of benefits that) you can gain (from him) later,” he said.

Madius added that although since their set- up both chambers have made numerous contributions, especially to the Dayak and Kadazandusun entrepreneurs, there is still a lot that they need to do and they should meet up with the nation’s current highest leader.

Meanwhile KCCI president Datuk Bonipasius Biani, who spoke earlier, reminded both the Dayaks and Kadazandusuns that they should change according to development – whether they like it or not – in order to continuously move forward.

He said if they do not change and follow the rhythm in the development of the digital world, especially digital economy, the two native communities would be left behind.

“Our market is huge. It reaches far beyond what we can do today, because the digital market is very big and borderless. Therefore, we must use any means and digital knowledge we have to master it,” he said.

The DCCI/ KCCI Gawai Kaamatan Dinner is held annually and the venue rotates between Sarawak and Sabah. This year’s venue was Sarawak ( Miri) – Deputy Chief Minister I of Sarawak Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas officiated at the ceremony.
