Leaving BN to form GPS a right thing to do – PBB sec-gen

-

SONG: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) is not ashamed to leave the Barisan Nasional ( BN) pact together with Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS), Progressive Democratic Party ( PDP) and Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) to form Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

PBB secretary- general Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi stated this to rebut allegations against GPS regarding the matter on social media.

“We are in politics not to fight for power or to involve ourselves in political tussle. We joined politics for the development of our community, our people and our state. We support whoever the government of the day is but we will oppose whatever issues discussed at the federal level that will not benefit Sarawak.

We will support them if they talk about development, progress, securityandanyothergoodthings,” he said before officiating at the ‘Student Volunteers Foundation (YSS) – Asean Mission to Sarawak’ programme at Rumah Aut Ujom in Temalat here on Saturday.

The Kapit MP added that GPS MPs are Pakatan Harapan ( PH) government-friendly and they will not oppose the way PH MPs did when they were the opposition.

Earlier, he explained that PBB, PRS, SUPP and PDP exited BN in a proper manner. He said he was entrusted by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to meet up with federal BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to inform him about the matter.

“We left BN because the political landscape has changed and we do not make the decision just like that. Staying in BN after it lost in the general election may not be the way for Sarawak to move forward,” he said, adding that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had given his assurance on the matter. He also explained to his constituents that PBB, PRS, SUPP and PDP still exist although they are no longer in BN.

Meanwhile, the ‘ YSS – Asean Mission to Sarawak’ involved a total of 40 university students from Asean countries stationed at Kampung Gelam and Rumah Aut Ujom from July 7 to 17.

The students will be sent to selected schools near Kampung Gelam and Rumah Aut to help teachers in teaching and learning sessions. They will prepare a report that will be presented when they return to Putrajaya at the end of the programme.

Also present were YSS chairman Datuk Zuraidah Atan and Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Sarawak Regional Office director Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh.
