Unite, involve people from all subgroups, Dayak-based bodies reminded
KUCHING: All Dayak- based organisations and associations must not only strive to unite the community, but also to serve all under various Dayak subgroups.
In this regard, Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi also calls upon these bodies to engage all members of the community, from every sub- group, in their activities.
“If we think that there is a lack of participation from them (Dayaks) in the activities organised by any Dayak-based organisation, then we should find ways to engage them.
“Members of any Dayak organisation should not feel discouraged upon facing certain Dayak sub-groups who do not take part in their activities because there could be some things that have yet to be done in convincing them to participate,” he spoke at the opening of Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak ( SIDS)’s

inaugural triennial general meeting ( TGM) at a local hotel yesterday.
In his remarks, Nanta – also Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) deputy president – commended Tan Sri Empiang Jabu for being an exceptional role model for all Dayak women during her time as SIDS chairperson.
“She is indeed a great leader who has helped steer SIDS to greater heights. In my opinion, what all Dayak women can learn from her is how to lead an organisation as her leadership quality is surely the type that the Dayak community needs,” he said.
In her speech earlier, Empiang disclosed her intention of stepping down after helming SIDS for so many years. In this respect, she expressed her hope that SIDS would continue its function as an organisation, under the SDNU umbrella, that fights for the rights of Dayak women in Sarawak and also contributes to the development of the community.
“I hope that SIDS would also take the initiative to recruit more members in the future. We must be active in our activities as well, in order to remain relevant to Dayaks in Sarawak,” she said.
Later, Nanta pledged to donate RM20,000 to SIDS for it to run its activities.
