SUPP Dudong passes resolution in favour of party leaving BN
SIBU: The Dudong branch of Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) reached a resolution that was in favour of the party leaving Barisan Nasional ( BN) during its extraordinary general meeting ( EGM) yesterday.
This resolution was among five passed at the EGM. SUPP Dudong chairman Wong Ching Yong said all five resolutions would be submitted to SUPP’s annual delegates conference, scheduled to take place in Kuching soon.
The second resolution was in favour of SUPP becoming a part of Gabungan Parti Sarawak ( GPS). The third resolution, however, was for SUPP to only join GPS under four conditions, said Wong.
The GPS – comprising Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB), SUPP, Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party ( PDP) – was formed on June 12 this year following the departure of these four local political parties from BN.
However in a recent statement, WongviewedthedecisionbySUPP to leave BN and jointly form GPS was made without consultation with party members. One of the four conditions under the third resolution was for SUPP, PBB, PRS and PDP – as the supposed founding parties – to be equal partners under GPS, said Wong.
“There should be no further admission of any other political party – unless the proposed admission/application is unanimously agreed upon before a decision could be made.
“Major issues and matters involving government policies, measures including important positions in government agencies and matters affecting the interests of Sarawak and the four component parties, should also be agreed mutually before any decision can be made.
“No component party of GPS should contest in more than half of the state and parliamentary seats in any state/or parliamentary elections,” he stressed.
Wong said GPS should accept the candidates recommended by each component party for the state/ parliamentary election, and the final decision on candidacy would lie with the respective component party.
On the fourth resolution, he said by Sept 30, all the existing posts in local councils and government agencies, as well as the posts of community leaders throughout Sarawak that were still held by members of United People’s Party ( UPP), should be replaced by those recommended by SUPP.
On the fifth resolution, Wong underlined that the Dayak cadres and party members had played a pivotal role in many elections over the past decades.
“The branch ( SUPP Dudong) hereby proposes that the SUPP constitution and rules be amended so as to create two secretary- general ( SG) posts – one for a Chinese comrade, and the other for a Dayak comrade,” he said.
