-

LIMBANG: Sarawakians must strive to uphold unity, in view of the change in the political landscape.

In making this call, Assistant Minister of Agriculture Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail stressed that through unity, any development plan could be implemented smoothly.

In this regard, he assured the people that the Sarawak government would continue its focus on developing basic infrastructure, human capital and the economy.

“The people must uphold this spirit of unity, in that Sarawak still needs more developments slated for the benefit of its people,” he spoke at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering hosted by the Limbang Malay Community Development Centre here on Saturday, where Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah, Limbang District Office representative Hamidah Halpi and Limbang Malay Association ( PML) chairman Mohamad Abu Bakar were also present.

On a related subject, Dr Abdul Rahman who is Bukit Kota assemblyman said problems affecting basic infrastructure such as water and electricity supply interruptions would be addressed and dealt with in stages.

“Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has given assurance that he would continue the focus on rural development, aimed primarily at narrowing the urban-rural gap.

On agriculture, he said Sarawak has vast fertile land covering around two million hectares, which could be developed into plantations.

Nevertheless, he said this plan could be realised through cooperation between Sarawak and the federal government, in that the former is still lacking in expertise and funding.

Meanwhile, Dr Abdul Rahman called upon the leadership in PML – regarded as among the oldest associations here – to chart its direction for the future, specifically on reinvigorating its administration to be more relevant with the times.
